Grooming

Grooming your cat is nesscecary. It helps slow down the growth of hairballs, stimulates your cats' blood flow, stops cat hair left when you pat her/him and provides some good bonding time for you and your cat. If your cat has long fur, a pin brush is best for working through long coat. A flat and slicker brush would work better for short fur. A smaller and more gentle brush (nail brushes for humans should work) can be used for smaller areas, like around the face and ears. If you want to use a comb, use a wide toothed comb for long fur, and a fine toothed one for short fur. You may want to buy a smaller and more gentle brush for a kitten.

Hairballs

there is no way to prevent hairballs. Cats groom themselves, mainly with their tounges so they are going to swallow some hair. Cats with longer hair are more likely to get hairballs often. If you aren't there when your cat does it just make sure your cat is acting normal then clean up the hairball. If you are there when the cat does it than watch to make sure he/she doesn't clog her/his throat, don't touch him/her while he/she is doing it. As soon as she/he is finished pet her/him gentely and tell him/her thing such as 'good job' or 'good girl/boy' then move him/her away and clean it up.
